HOW TO GET THERE
Access: The nearest stations are Osaka and Umeda station. From there, it’s a 10-15 minutes walk.
Since we could not check in yet at our hotel, we decided to visit the Umeda Sky Building since Osaka station is just one stop away from Shin-Osaka station. It is the closest sight we can see with the limited time we had and just didn’t want to waste our time waiting around the hotel for check in. We had unlimited JR rides anyway with our 3 day pass. From the exit of the Osaka station, you will be able to see the Umeda Sky Building so it was easy to reach the building. From downstairs looking up, it was really grand.

We had to take the elevator to go up which was scary a bit since you go up in the dark then suddenly the light and the sights hit you when you are close to the stop. Then we had to take the perpendicular escalators where you also have clear views of the atrium down the building. We were basically hanging down. With our JR 3 day pass, we got a 100 yen discount for entry so instead of paying 1000 yen, we only paid 900 yen.
These were the escalators. I took this picture when we were going down.
We were awarded with amazing views at the top. It had clear viewing platforms with some of them even having chairs so you can just sit back and enjoy the view. They also had some interactive displays. Also, there was a cafeteria on the top floor. You had to climb up the stairs or take the elevator for the open viewing deck which was very windy at the time we were there.
All in all, we spent about maybe one hour here just enjoying the view and taking pictures. Transport took us 30 minutes. So maybe allow 2 hours in your schedule for this sight.
This is the model of the building and surrounding area located at the lobby. I took this picture before we left the building and it is fascinating to see the building that you are on. It was a nice experience for our first day in Japan. For us, it was the best vantage point to see Osaka.
