We stumbled upon Tongara Ramen in Cebu because of its location on Escario Street. Our hotel Best Western Plus is located just a few meters away from the complex of restaurants including Tongara Ramen. We were just looking for a place to eat dinner and we decided to try this ramen restaurant.
TONGARA RAMEN CEBU ATMOSPHERE
The place is small. It had maybe 3 sets of tables that can comfortably seat four on each side of the restaurant. There is also a long booth in the middle that can sit 4 individuals. It also has seating towards the kitchen which can seat 3. Fortunately for us, they were not so busy the night we went in. I like the decor and feeling that you are in a very authentic quaint Japanese Ramen House.
TONGARA RAMEN CEBU FOOD
This is their menu. They have 8 different ramen on their menu. Price is a bit on the expensive side but it’s reasonable for the quality you get. They also had side dishes available: spicy chicken, chicken karaage and gyoza priced at PHP 200 per order. They also have different kinds of drinks. The menu may seem limited but I like these restaurants that don’t have too much on their menu. For me, it means that it’s highly likely that the ingredients are fresher because they only keep a small inventory.
We ordered the gyoza for starters. We really liked the gyoza. The spicy soy dipping sauce goes really well with the gyoza.
We ordered the Tongara Ramen. We loved it. The broth was really tasty. The noodles were firm and chewy which I really like.
Our bill came to around PHP 1,200 or USD $25 for 2 ramens, gyoza and drinks. We were very happy with this meal. The boyfriend really liked this so I can’t wait to take him to Japan next time. Haha. I’m glad his first ramen experience was really good. I would really recommend this place. It seems like they really put in some thought to perfecting their menu. If I am back in Cebu, I would certainly visit this place again.
