Gion is the Geisha district of Kyoto. People come here for a chance to see a real geisha. It is lined up with traditional tea houses. There are also modern patisseries in the area. Most geishas and maikos perform at these traditional tea houses. We walked around the area after visiting the temples of Kyomizudera nearby.
PATISSERIE GION SAKAI
We actually just chanced upon this patisserie/tea house because we have ben walking all day and have been visiting sights in Kyoto like the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Fushimi Inari and Kyomizudera. We just wanted a place to sit and relax for a bit before we end the day and go back to Osaka.
Downstairs is the patisserie where you can buy the attractive pastries. The seating is upstairs. They give you a menu to choose from. Seats are limited to maybe 16 at most. We were lucky that a couple of girls were just leaving. They just cleaned the table and we could sit.
FOOD AT PATISSERIE GION SAKAI
We were given hot towels which was refreshing. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake for myself. The schatje wanted the strawberry short cake but it was already sold out. He just ordered green tea. Prices were not too bad for such a fancy place. This patisserie was constantly on places to visit or cafes to eat in Kyoto when I was looking into it recently. We had no idea it was but happy to have experienced it.
