The Leonardo Hotel Antwerp is very close to the Central station. We chose this hotel because we had to leave really early by train. It was also was right on budget at the time we booked it. The price was around 59.10 euros a night excluding the city tax of 2.39 per person per night which most hotels probably charge separately. The hotel is obviously running on the Leonardo Da Vinci theme whom the hotel was named after.
OUR ROOM AT LEONARDO HOTEL ANTWERP
Our room was a Standard room. It was very spacious. We were given the room on the first floor with our windows facing the courtyard. There were chairs in the courtyard. I imagine the area being used for breakfast when the weather is nice. Fortunately, it was not used while we were staying there because It could have been noisy.
As you enter the room, there was an open closet on the left with hangers and a safety box.
On the right is a separate toilet and also a bath with shower combination. The sink was spacious. There was also a hairdryer inside the bathroom. Towels were refreshed everyday and the hotel was tidied up. Although the sheets were never changed nor is there any paper to indicate that you want it changed. The bathroom has seen better days but at least it was clean.
There was also a luggage area across the bed where you can put your luggage on.
The heater is not automatic. You have to manually turn the radiator on which is not a big deal. There was a desk on the right hand corner of the room. It had a small fridge inside the cabinet. The TV was also sufficient with about 4-5 English channels. There were also channels in Dutch, French and German. There was a chair on the right side of the bed and a lamp next to it.
The bed was really comfortable although the bed sheets were really thin. You can see the mattress right through. The drawing on the headboard and the light is a nice touch. There were also electrical outlets next to the bed which makes it really convenient to charge your phone at night.
THE FACILITIES AT LEONARDO HOTEL ANTWERP
The entry is quite long with the reception on the left. I saw some water and fruits when we go out but it was never offered to us so I’m not sure if that is complimentary. There were a lot of seating past the reception. I also saw a couple of computer desks I assume is available for everyone. There is also a vending machine which has drinks available but as expected, they are overpriced. There are two elevators which is really nice. I don’t think a lot of people knows about the second one because when we use it, there is hardly anyone that is on it. It was always available.
The breakfast area is located on the first floor. It seemed nice. We did not avail breakfast because we were always out and the breakfast area won’t be open on our third day anyways so it would be a waste. The courtyard area is really nice. They probably use this as an extension for breakfast when they have a fuller capacity. There was another courtyard area across it.
ACCESSIBILITY OF LEONARDO HOTEL ANTWERP
The train, metro and buses are at a short walking distance from the hotel. We specifically chose this hotel because of our early departure at the Antwerp Central train station to Brussels airport. We just walked to the station at the wee hours of the morning.
If you would like to use the city bikes that are for rent, there is a bike stand just in front of the hotel. There are numerous restaurants near the hotel. There is a grocery about 200 meters away. The Antwerp Zoo is also about 200 meters away. The Meir, Groenplaats, Cathedral, Rubenshuis and other attractions are at a walk-able distance.
We liked our stay at the hotel. As long as you don’t expect too much, this is a very good hotel. It has a really top location which you can’t beat if the price is right. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to be centrally located in Antwerp and does not really need a fancy room.
