How to Order NSO issued Birth Certificates online in the Philippines

UPDATE: NOVEMBER 11, 2014
I used this service recently and up until now, I haven’t received the order which stresses me out because we need the document. I availed of the service because of the convenience and it was supposedly faster. Their website indicates that I should receive the documents 3-9 working days after payment. The dispatch email says that I should receive it in 2-6 Business days. It’s past that and I still haven’t received the documents. I emailed them twice and didn’t get a response. I should have just requested the document from SM’s Business Center. I would probably at least get it by now. So if you are considering this service, I hope you learn from my recent experience.  I don’t think I will be using this service anymore.

Getting an NSO (National Statistics Office) issued Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Death Certificate and CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage) has been easier now. There are a few ways you can get one: 1. going to the local NSO office, 2. SM Business Centers, 3. Online. This post on How to Order NSO issued Birth Certificates online in the Philippines can hopefully give you information and an idea on how you can get one.

There are two ways to get it online. One is through http://nso.citizenservices.com.ph/ and the one I prefer is through https://www.ecensus.com.ph/. I will tell you why. So this blog post will show you how to order an NSO issued Birth Certificate online through Ecensus.

I have no issue with mine, I have no problem ordering it through any of the other options. My brother’s Birth Certificate however is a different story. A few years back, we ordered one online and we found out that their copy was not legible. So we were given a letter to ask the Local Registrar a copy of the original Birth Certificate and send it to them. That was exactly what we did. So fast forward to a year or two when we wanted to order an NSO issued copy of his Birth Certificate, we found that it was still blurred and not legible. We have tried it with the local NSO office, at the SM Business Center, online with Teleserv or www.nso.citizenservices.com.ph all with the same result of having a blurred and not legible copy. I almost made a trip to Manila to show them the documents I was sent. Good thing I tried it with Ecensus first and we got an NSO issued Birth Certificate – the corrected copy.

Anyway, so this is the process. Once you click on the button Click Here to Request Now, you will see this page.\

This is the Contact and Delivery Information on who will receive the documents. The Fees are on the right. After you click the Next or Submit Button, a pop-up window will ask you if the information you have entered is correct which you can either change/edit or confirm to proceed on the next page.

This page will ask you what kind of certificate(s) you wanted to request. You can order multiple ones. You just fill out the form of each request which have basic questions like the names of your father and mother, their birthdays.

After you have filled out and submitted a request, you will see your Batch Request number, Contact and Delivery Information, Requests Summary and Instructions on the right on how to pay for it. I think Teleserv accepts Credit Card transactions but Ecensus only accepts payments through bank deposit or online banking payment which in my case was through BDO.

If you have a BDO Online Banking account, you just log into it. Click on Bills Payment. It’s important to click on Pay Company/Biller not requiring enrollment check box to limit the options. You will see E-CENSUS (UNISYS) on the list right away. On the Subscriber number, it is important to note that you put in the Batch Request Number if you are paying for all of your order assuming you have multiple ones, you input the number without dashes. If you are just paying for a particular request, you input the Request Reference Number.

Then you will get a pop-up window that confirms the information you entered and if you wanted to continue.

payment 2

Then it will give you confirmation of your payment.

You just wait about 3-5 Business days before the certificates get delivered. You will normally get an email notification that your request had been dispatched.

  • Thanks for this post. Entering E-CENSUS for Subscriber Name didn’t work for me. I rang BDO hotline for help. Turns out I had to place the Requester’s Name (as indicated in my email confirmation from E-Census website) for Subscriber Name.
eg. I wrote it in this order: .

In case anybody else encounters the same issue, that may be the solution for you. They also recommended I use Firefox instead of Chrome.

    • Hi Leo,

I went on ECensus’s Frequently Asked Questions page and found this:

      12. Can I make corrections after submitting my request/s online?

If you have not paid your request yet, you may submit another request with the correct entries.

However, once payment is made, e-Census can no longer accept corrections and/or cancellations. This will require a new request. Please be careful when filling out the online application form.

I’m not sure if this is what you were looking for but here’s the link to their page for more information: https://www.ecensus.com.ph/Secure/FAQs.aspx

  • Hi, I just want to ask a question. I have to get my SSS already and I have to show them the original copy of my birth certificate, however, it is gone. if I get it in e-census, is that (birth certificate) original copy?

    • Hi Mitchco,

No it’s not the original but it would be the NSO certified copy which most government agencies recognize but it would be wise to ask SSS if it’s ok to submit the NSO copy.

    • Hi toinks,

I’m not sure why but I just used it lately like a couple of weeks ago and E-Census as the subscriber’s name worked for me. 🙂

  • Can you help me how to get NSO Birth Certificate in your office and how long will I have to wait to process it ?

i’m waiting for the responce. Thank you!

    • Hi Epen,

I have no office. I’m just a regular person who just shared my experience on getting my NSO birth certificate online with this blog post hoping it would help others. I don’t work for them and I’m not connected with NSO or the online service in any way. 🙂

I think iemail ka din nila if nadispatch na yung request mo for nso documents. Maganda yun na inemail mo na sila to follow up. 🙂

  • I’ll just re-iterate that you NEED TO REMOVE THE DASHES in your request number for it to be allowed in the BDO Online System. This was not indicated in the official guide of e-census. Hope this helps someone. REMOVE THE DASHES. 🙂 #payitforward

Joke lang. Labyu. You’re a gift to the unibers!

  • Way back 10yrs.ago i applied for a passport… so one of the requirements when applying a passport is the birth certificate authenticated by the NSO. I was instructed first to get a certified copy from the civil registrars offce… So far so good all the records are correctly according to its data written on it.

2yrs.ago I renewed my passport so I thought I needed another copy of my NSO birth certificate if in case they would ask it again. just to be sure and prepared
I applied and when it was released the problem is already there…

my first name was already misspelled… from Laarni to Laarnie(wrong spelling)
and all my FIRST NAME, MIDDLE NAME, LAST NAME/SURNAME was written compressedly in one under the NAME DATA and leaving the data as blank under my middle name and surname as if I have 3 given names.
    ex.:
    NAME: MIDDLE NAME: LAST NAME/SURNAME:
    Laarnie Briones Tan

So I asked the NSO personnel how could it possibly like that where in fact when I first applied for a passport all the given datas are correct. My name was correctly spelled as LAARNI.
I just happen to find out when i applied for a copy of my NSO birth certificate did not matched the datas and then advised me to go to the civil registrars office…

So I went to the registrars office for a certified copy and all was written are tru the copy are correct. Then I asked the office that my files from their office did not match from the datas I took from the NSO.
Sad to say the personnel pinpointed to each offices…

What shall I do to make its data be corrected???

    • Hi Laarni,

I’m so sorry to hear about that. They should be the agency correcting that since they made the mistake but that is just my opinion. Your case is a little complicated, I would suggest consulting a travel agency with good passport processing experience and ask them about your case just in case they can offer more information about it. I hope you get it fixed soon. 🙂

  • i also requested for certificates last nov19 and until now, i still havent received it. i emailed a million times but no one is responding. is no one really responding to the emails? anyone who has another contact number where we can call/email?

  • I don’t live in the Philippines. Will e-Census mail my birth certificate to me, here in the U.S or is this just for residing in the Philippines? Also I noticed that NSO isn’t the actual original copy. What is the best way to get a copy of my original birth certificate?

    • Hi George,

Your original birth certificate is issued around the time of your birth. That’s the only time you get that. The NSO only issues a certified copy of that. You can request a birth certificate from a local registar in your municipality of birth which is different from an NSO copy. I don’t remember if it’s e-census that can send copies or the other company but I’ve tried it before in the states and I did get the NSO copy in the US when I was there. 🙂

God bless!

    • Hi Anna,

My copy was an nso copy. That’s what they issue. You might have to do that yourself if needed.

Thank you po

    • Hi Nhel dela cruz,

This blog post is only for getting an NSO issued certificates online. If you want to file an annulment, I think you need to consult a lawyer. I’m sorry wala ako idea kung paano.

  • It’s unbelievable how many commenters thought of you as an NSO officer, lawyer, and living search engine. Whyyyy.
Thanks for the info! I’m lining up via SM business center instead given your note

  • hi! i requested for a copy of my brother’s birth cert yesterday and immediately processed the payment via BDO online banking but it has not been posted yet. How long does it usually take for payment to be posted?

  • I already filled up all the information and got the reference number, but not paid yet . i accidentally closed the window and missed the payment. Would I fill up again for my information and get another reference number for payment ? please help me.

    • You only need the reference number you already have to proceed with payment since that already has the information you provided. For payment, it just redirects you to the payment options which you can always go to independently. 🙂

  • and btw, is nsohelpline legit? because i tried applying for a birth cert on their site, and instead of 315 pesos only, 350 po ang sa kanila..so gumawa nalng ulit ako ng request directly through ecensus.

    • Hi sunny, i don’t know. Hindi ko pa natry sila. Ang nasubukan ko pa lang is ecensus. They are two different companies that process NSO certificates kaya magkaiba siguro ang pricing nila.

    • Nsohelpline.ph / psahelpline.ph is legit. I requested for a birth certificate Thursday 4pm, and it was delivered Saturday lunchtime. I live in Pasig by the way. Fyi
