Hungry Yard Tarlac is the city’s first food park. It is built on container shelves like most food park in the Philippines. The place has about 25-30 food stalls. It can be packed on weekends especially on holidays. Hungry Yard Tarlac has varied selection from comfort food to desserts and craft beers. It is located on the San Sebastian/San Vicente diversion road which is basically the back of SM Tarlac which has been becoming like a restaurant row since a lot of food establishments have opened there in the last few years. That area is very much alive at night.
Matutina’s is a seafood restaurant located in San Sebastian, Tarlac City. It’s along the highway across the intersection next to the SOGO Hotel so it’s hard to miss. It serves mostly Filipino food with affordable prices. My friend and I met after not seeing each other in a while. I was craving pinakbet and Matutina’s makes some mean Pinakbet so we decided to eat there.
Betty’s Tarlac is a newly opened restaurant that specializes on native cakes like duman, bibingkang kanin, cassava, maja blanca, ube, capit, gabi, tibok-tibok, sapin-sapin, motchi, puto, buchi, and kutsinta. It is located on San Roque, near BDO. The restaurant has two floors and can probably accommodate a 80-100 people.
Betty’s Tarlac is an institution in this city as it is the go to place for native cakes to take to parties. They have several stores strewn around the city and even in nearby provinces.
Thai Odyssey Tarlac is also a newly opened massage place in Tarlac City. It is located on Ripples Building, Talon Citi Plaza at San Sebastian Bypass road, on the back roads of SM Tarlac. From the outside, it looks small but I didn’t know that it occupies 3 floor levels. We walked in and asked if they had available masseuse at that time for two people. Luckily there were. The owner explained to us what kind of services they have. We chose their Thai Odyssey signature massage for 298 pesos.
The Grillery Tarlac is a new restaurant along Bypass road in San Sebastian at the back roads of SM Tarlac. That street is becoming a restaurant row with all the new restaurants popping up in the last 10 months. I must say that the play looks really good. You can describe it as very instagrammable. The decor is on point. The lights and event the fans are very industrial chic. Price is mid range. They serve mostly grilled meats and alcohol. The food however is a different story. You can read more on the post.
My cousin and I visited this Caffe La Tea branch in Tarlac located on Mabini Street. It is next to D&C Cuisine. I was a little confused because it used to be located on Romulo near Tarlac State University. That cafe still exists but it got rebranded as Urban Brew. They look exactly alike and probably serves the same kind of food, more or less. This branch is a little smaller than that one but I guess it makes it more cozy.
The cafe originated in Cabanatuan. It was conceptualized by a group of sister-cousin-friends according to their website. They started in July of 2015. So It’s fairly new. Their website says that their success comes from being located on busy thoroughfares near to universities which seems to be true. They do have good locations. If you want to read more about their story, you can always go to their website. 🙂
Baan Khun Thai Tarlac is new in town. I was only gone for a few months and suddenly so many new things popped up. There are two branches of this particular massage place and they apparently have different owners and not at all related. They have very good price points and the massage technique is a lot better than other massage places in town especially if you like the pressure hard.
Cafe Royale is a new cafe/restaurant that recently opened in Tarlac. It is located on Bypass road, San Vicente, Tarlac. It’s on the road at the back of SM City Tarlac. It’s hard to miss since the facade is mostly white. There is an adjacent building which is still under construction. News is that they will turn it into a gaming area with billiards, darts, etc. For now, only the cafe is open.
9185 Burger Lab Tarlac is a restobar that opened around November 2015. It is located along McArthur Highway near the Fil-Chinese fire station. The highlight of their menu is mostly burgers and fries. We went to their restaurant in November so I think the menu has improved and they have added more to it. Prices range from 99 to 160 pesos. The place is very accessible and has ample parking space. The ambiance is very basic.
