Air Asia Mandalay Free Shuttle Bus

Air Asia Mandalay Free Shuttle Bus

Air Asia Mandalay free shuttle bus is a free transport service to and from the airport. There is only one bus schedule a day and this coincides with the schedule of the flight. This is a really good service as the airport is quite far from the city so taxi fares are a bit expensive especially if you have no one to split it with. The only disadvantage I’ve observed is taking it from the city to the airport, it arrives really early for your flight. They don’t really open the gates until an hour before your flight so you have no option but to loiter around the airport with no internet connection and hardly any seats.

Grasshopper Adventures Bicycle tour U-bein Sunset Ride

Grasshopper Adventures Bicycle tour U-bein Sunset Ride

The Grasshopper Adventures Bicycle tour U-bein Sunset Ride tour is a bit expensive but I thought it was really worth it. I inquired about a lot of tours in Mandalay. The hotel even helped me look for one but most of them were unavailable in the off season. Luckily, the Grasshopper Adventures were still conducting tours. There were only 2 in our group, the other one was Audrey. She was another solo female traveler from Malaysia. The cost of the tour is $60 per person. It includes hotel pick up and drop off, bike, English speaking tour guide, helmet, snacks, and drinks. You can click here for more details of our tour at the Grasshopper Adventures website. When I was making the reservation, I was asked for my height so they can set the bike according to it.

Mandalay Tour

Mandalay Tour

My Mandalay tour started pretty late. It was around noon so we did not go to a lot of places. I hired a local taxi driver recommended by my friend. Their taxi are not cars, it’s more like a pick up truck covered at the back. He charged me about 15,000 kyats for the whole day.

Where to Stay in Mandalay

Where to Stay in Mandalay

If you’re like me who prefers to have most things in order with travel arrangements, this might be for you. I’m the kind of traveler who prefers to have a hotel/hostel already reserved for my destination. So I always book one before I go. Of course this has its advantage and disadvantages. I like having a place to find and lay my weary head with from a long travel than shop around at my destination even if it’s low season. So, these were the hotels that in my research and experience are good options on where to stay in Mandalay. I ordered them from by price.

Local Restaurant in Mandalay

I don’t know the name of this place so if you can read the script, let me know. Haha. I know that it is located on the corner of 27th and 66th street, across Sedona Hotel. They serve local dishes and they are famous for their noodles. It is pronounce as Jai-o but it is spelled really different.

M3 Hotel Review in Mandalay

I booked the hotel before my trip since I didn’t want to look for any while I was there. Otherwise, I wouldn’t mind staying at Royal Yadanarbon Hotel again. This hotel is a bit pricier than my usual pick but the location is really good. It’s on the main road and a couple of blocks from the AirAsia bus stop which is the corner of the Royal Palace complex as well. I asked my friend who lived there about my hotel choices before booking and she said that she knew this one so I went with it. Here’s my M3 Hotel review. 🙂

Night Bus from Mandalay to Inle Lake

Night Bus from Mandalay to Inle Lake

I took the Ok Van Express from Bagan to Mandalay. It was basically the same experience from Mandalay to Bagan. I arrived around noon. I had to wait for my friend to finish her work so we can hang out. We went for a massage. It was not good. I didn’t think there were bad massages until I experienced this one in Mandalay. Haha. Anyway, our night bus leaves at 7pm so we decided to eat dinner before we go to the bus station. We went to this open restaurant near the massage place and that’s what you call a balanced meal. Haha. Health on the left and death on the right. 😛 We bought our tickets before at the travel agency my friend frequents. I’m sure you can also get tickets at hotels. This is our experience with the night bus from Mandalay to Inle Lake.

OK Van Express from Mandalay to Bagan

OK Van Express from Mandalay to Bagan

When I was researching for this trip, I read about OK Express and that it was a good service. They do door to door so they pick you up from your hotel in Mandalay and drop you off at your hotel in Bagan or vice versa. If I had known this, I could have traveled at night without any worries. Anyway, it costs 9000 kiats or $9. They have maybe 3 trips a day. I took the earliest one at 8am.

Aye Myit Tar – Traditional Myanmar Food

Aye Myit Tar – Traditional Myanmar Food

We tried Aye Myit Tar restaurant thanks to Tripadvisor. My friend and I were looking for a good place to eat traditional Myanmar food. It was a really nice, huge place. I think we were the only foreigners eating at that time. It’s low season. It was mostly a local place with families in tow probably celebrating something special.
