A Myanmar rest stop for buses and vans

A Myanmar rest stop for buses and vans

This Myanmar rest stop we were at was not very big. There were maybe 2 buses at most but a lot of them were local looking taxis and vans. It seems like a local stop too, not too many foreigners. It had a huge restaurant and some stalls outside selling mangoes and snacks.

Thanaka Garden

Thanaka Garden

We decided to try another place we saw on Tripadvisor and Thanaka Garden was far from our hotel. We actually had to look it up on the map and it was on this really dark, residential road. This is what their website says: “We are a family run restaurant in Nyaung Shwe, the port town to Inle Lake, Myanmar. We opened in 2013 and have become one of the most popular restaurant in town. All our food is hygienically prepared with mineral water and delicious and we keep our prices very reasonable. Our location is very peaceful, off the main road.”

Boat Tour on Inle Lake

Boat Tour on Inle Lake

So we went on a boat tour on Inle Lake. We asked our hostel if they could recommend someone for a boat tour. We agreed on the price of 15,000 kyats or $15. I think it’s usually 20,000 during the high season. We started the tour after lunch. Our hostel was just right in front of the boat dock. It was easy to go to the boat. You just go down the steps.

The French Touch Nyaung Shwe

The French Touch Nyaung Shwe

We were walking around the streets near our hotel and the sign caught our attention so we decided to check it out. The French Touch is a restaurant and bakery located at Kyaung Taw Shayt Street | N0 23, Myo Lac Quater, Nyaungshwe. It is tucked a bit away on a side street so look for the sign.

Inle Star Motel Review

Inle Star Motel Review

I didn’t actually bother to make reservations for Inle Lake since we weren’t really sure what time we were gonna arrive. My friend had stayed here before with her friends so this was the one we went to. We buzzed them at 4 in the morning. I think it’s a young husband and wife team that manages this place and they were really nice. We did not have a reservation but he was gracious enough to give us a room so we can get a bit of sleep before we head out for the day. I don’t recommend this during high season. It’s only because it’s low season that you would usually find availability. We were given a room on the second floor. Here’s my Inle Star Motel review. 🙂

Night Bus from Mandalay to Inle Lake

Night Bus from Mandalay to Inle Lake

I took the Ok Van Express from Bagan to Mandalay. It was basically the same experience from Mandalay to Bagan. I arrived around noon. I had to wait for my friend to finish her work so we can hang out. We went for a massage. It was not good. I didn’t think there were bad massages until I experienced this one in Mandalay. Haha. Anyway, our night bus leaves at 7pm so we decided to eat dinner before we go to the bus station. We went to this open restaurant near the massage place and that’s what you call a balanced meal. Haha. Health on the left and death on the right. 😛 We bought our tickets before at the travel agency my friend frequents. I’m sure you can also get tickets at hotels. This is our experience with the night bus from Mandalay to Inle Lake.
