The Antwerp Christmas Market will be up in a month’s time so if you are visiting the city around 9 December 2017 to 7 January 2018, you will be able to enjoy the festivities. The Visit Antwerp website says that it will be a magical winter wonderland and there will be “dusting of diamonds” this year. The festivities of the Antwerp Christmas Market includes the ice rink at Groenplaats, the Christmas Market stalls, the big Ferris Wheel, the slip and slide tube for kids. They would also have some items around the city. Two years ago they had the display where they had snow on the glass so you can take your picture behind it. Last year, they had a small structure with mistletoe hang above so you can kiss under it.
ANTWERP CHRISTMAS MARKET
We take the bus into the city so we have to walk through Meir and you can see all the decorations on the shopping street on our way to Groenplaats. The festivities of the Antwerp Christmas Market are from Groenplaats all the way to the Steen castle.
At the Groenplaats, we saw the stalls surrounding the ice rink. You can see a lot of merchandise being sold. There were also stalls selling food and drinks. You can see the cathedral at the backdrop and it looked really marvelous.
After spending some time in Groenplaats, we made our way towards the Cathedral. It was lighted really nicely at the front.
Then we made our way to the Grote Markt where we saw the big igloo. Inside you will find a platform under a mistletoe. When you step on that, it lights up and you can kiss your loved ones.
The Municipal Hall looks astonishing with the lights surrounding it.
After the Grote Markt, we make our way towards the Steen castle. We found the big Ferris Wheel south of it. There are also a number of stalls selling products and food in between the castle and the Ferris Wheel. I love how they also decorated the trees with lights. It makes the atmosphere really festive.
We ended our visit of the Antwerp Christmas Market at the Steen Castle which was also lighted for the festivities.
