About

about me

I come from a small city called Tarlac in the Philippines but I have dreams as big as the universe.Β I have a severe case of itchy feet. It seems like I can’t stay in one place for a long time. I believe in investing in experiences. I always tell friends to invest in themselves. Life is too short. I’d rather spend good money on a plane ticket than a designer bag. I believe that nothing is really permanent – not things, places, even people. So, treasure everything while you still can.

My friend suggested that my About me page is too short and I should answer these questions. So here it goes:

HOW I STARTED THIS BLOG
I started a blog just because it was a new thing before and I wanted to try it some 8 years ago. Then IΒ stared traveling and friends would ask about my itinerary, what I did, how I got the visa. To streamline everything, I thought I would post it here. When a friend asks, I could just easily give him/her the link and I don’t have to write the same info a few times. It also became a sort of documentation of my travels and adventures. πŸ™‚

WHAT GOT ME STARTED WITH TRAVEL?
I’ve always been curious with the world. I remember our provincial excursions to the mountains or nearby beach when I was a kid and I have fond memories. I had the opportunity to go to a beautiful place for college. I occasionally traveled. I always envied some of my peers who had freedom to go wherever they want but my passport was different from theirs. It was always more challenging to get to places but it was alwaysΒ possible. πŸ™‚ When I returned home, that’s when it really started. I thank budget airlines because they really made it affordable to get from one place to another.

HOW DO I DO IT?
I am not rich. I am self-employed with a comfortable income. I do my best with what I have. I’ve never asked my parents for travel expenses.Β I don’t like to spend on things like bag, clothes, coffee, etc. Travel is probably my only vice if you can call it that. I have a system in place. I usually buy my ticket 3 months ahead of departure. Then 2 months before, I take care of accommodation. Then the month before, I sort out my travel budget. This way, I don’t spend it all in just one go. I divide it in 3 major expenses: airfare, accommodation and travel budget.

WHY DO I KEEP DOING WHAT I’M DOING?
Because I love it. I love looking at good airfare deals and comparing accommodations. IΒ love the feeling of discovering a nice cafe on a quiet street. I love how my perception of places and people can change. I love eating different cuisines. It’s like getting to know the world one place at a time. I like sharing that here. I hope more people would share experiences with one another. When I look back the year before, I don’t remember how much I earned, what new things I got, I always remember the things I did with this person at this place. That always puts a smile on my face. πŸ™‚

Questions about visas, travel or any other blog post will be entertained on the comment section so others who read it can also benefit from it. For everything else, contact me on my facebook page. πŸ™‚

I couldn’t agree more! Travelling is one of the practices I’d like to pass on to my future kids because it’s simply a nurturing activity.

I’m glad to have stumbled upon your blog, Ems. Please continue travelling and sharing interesting stories.

    Cheers!

    • Thank you for dropping by. I really appreciate you leaving a comment here.

I would like to pass this travel itch to my kids someday too. I would like for them to experience the world as their classroom growing up and hopefully I can afford to take them on trips. Haha.

  • Hi, Ems! I’m so inspired by your travels and you’ve got a wonderful blog here. Thank you for dropping by mine and leading me back here. Looking forward to reading more of your adventures! πŸ™‚

  • Hi ems, im Love Tita. I love and like your blogs. Im using Love, my neice blog and she is new here. I like the way you share your stories and travel. Travel with atleast not that expensive. I’m in Travel business and i love also to have travel to more cities. It just i need to find time and enough budget for it. Thanks for sharing.

    • You’re welcome Love Tita! I hope to encourage more people to travel and it doesn’t have to break the bank. I also save as much as I can so I can travel more. πŸ™‚

    • Hindi po pwede mag-apply ng Philippine passport online ngayon. Ang pwede lang po ay magset ng appointment online for a few DFA offices usually located sa Manila.

  • Hi Ems! Thank god for your blog! Helped me a lot with my UK Visa Application and I was granted a multiple entry for 6 months! Yey! Now I’m having a hard time with my Schengen visa. My interview is on Friday (Aug 22) and I am lacking one document. BANK CERTIFICATION. The thing is, I was originally scheduled for an August 5 interview date but because I had to go on a trip for work, I had to move it to August 22. Anyway, I requested for a BAnk certificate on August 1, which is what I have with me right. My concern is would it be possible to present that certification dated Aug 1 to my interview tomorrow? I have the updated passbooks with me for all my accounts, it’s just that the Bank Certificate is dated Aug 1. I checked the website again for the requirements, it just says “latest available bank certification or at least 3 months”. I dont know what they consider to be “latest/recent”. Maybe you can enlighten me on this one? Would it really matter that the date is different? It’s less than one month old though. I’m worried that this might cause me my visa approval although I have been previously issued Schengen visa back in 2010 and 2011. But this is the first time, I’ll be encountering a bump in the road such as this. Thank you so much! And keep on inspiring others to travel!

    • Hi G Dela Cerna,

Thanks for dropping by my blog and your wonderful comments. In my opinion, it should be good since you have your updated bank accounts with you as well. I haven’t tried this though as I always try to get a bank statement at least a week before my interview. Good luck with your interview. I hope you get your schenen visa and have a wonderful time in Europe. πŸ™‚

      • hi Ems! Thanks for your reply. Ive been anxious about it actually, all day today, but my bank said it’s impossible to secure a bank certification at such short notice so I guess I’ll have to stick to this one and just show them that I am capable of funding my own trip and still have fun in Europe. I’ve got all the documentary requirements right, except for this one, which hopefully, they’d still accept. My interview is at 8am tomorrow, so let’s see how it goes. I really hope securing a UK visa would help me get my approval. I havent tried applying in the French Embassy since I always go to Austria (easiest embassy to get into). I’ll be sharing my experiences here after my interview tomorrow. Thanks again for all the help! Keeping my fingers crossed! Keep your posts as informative and entertaining as it is! xx

  • Hi,
I’m also from Tarlac. Recently ko lang na-visit site mo and I was glad na meron entries about passport renewal at Marquee Mall. I’m also excited to start reading your travel blogs.

    • Nung ako din nagapply, 5 weeks din ang regular processing. Pag rush, 3 weeks. Sa Manila lang ata yung mabilis na 1 week but then again, appointment based sila so maghintay din for your appointment. Hindi pwedeng punta lang like sa Marquee. πŸ™‚

  • Hi,
I sched an appointment online for my passport renewal but provided an invalid email, they don’t accept hotmail…sorry my bad. What will i do?

    • Hi Leah,

I think I responded on the FB page. If that was not you, you would have to wait 72 hours for that appointment to be cancelled before you can make another appointment. πŸ™‚

  • Hi Ems. I really had fun reading your blog about your trip in Fukuoka. I’m travelling with my family in April and I plan to follow your entire itinerary, hope its ok. However for some places, there were no instructions on how to get to those places… would you have a complete copy of how to navigate to those places? you’ll be such a big help πŸ™‚ Thank you!

    • Hi,

I’m so sorry. I just saw this comment now. I can edit the post and give the how to go to the places. I hope it’s not too late. We try to search on the internet on sites like rome2rio.com or maps.me and also asking the personnel at the tourist info booth at the train station helps. πŸ™‚
